The Foreign Policy of Unbearable Lightness

Garren Shipley - March 5, 2018

Democrats in the 10th District gathered to talk foreign policy over the weekend, and the results were … enlightening. Find the entire video here.

Among the highlights, as documented by Blue Virginia:

• State Sen. Jennifer Wexton point blank admitted she didn’t know much about foreign policy.
• Lindsey Davis Stover told the crowd that her work with the Obama Administration’s disastrous Veterans Affairs Department qualified as foreign policy experience.
• Dan Helmer pointed out to the crowd that Democrats have lost against incumbent Barbara Comstock the last 5 times — because they ran political insiders, i.e. his three opponents on stage.
• All four said they favored closing the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and bringing the terrorists held there to the U.S. for trial.

What we didn’t hear:

• Any support for a stronger U.S. military.
• Acknowledgement that the U.S. has crushed ISIS in their home territory in the past year.
• Any plan for keeping Iran from becoming a nuclear power, other than blind support for the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Meanwhile, two candidates were excluded due to their “fundraising," Julia Biggins and Paul Pelletier.

Exit Questions: How far will DCCC go to save their anointed candidate Wexton? And what else will Gerry Connolly and company do to put their thumb on the scales in the 10th District?
