The Louis Farrakhan Problem At The DNC

Mike Reed - February 28, 2018

This past weekend, Louis Farrakhan delivered the keynote address at a Nation of Islam event and had some interesting things to say about DNC Deputy Chair Keith Ellison.

In a wildly anti-Semitic rant, Farrakhan reminded his audience that Ellison has long been a supporter of his, and indicated that Ellison is only distancing himself now for political purposes, claiming “when you want something in this world, the Jew holds the door.”

In Anti-Semitic Rant, Louis Farrakhan Confirms DNC’s Keith Ellison Was In Nation Of Islam

In recent weeks, Ellison has denied having any relationship with Farrakhan despite new revelations that he has continued to have ties with Farrakhan since joining Congress.

His office has even resorted to attacking the media for daring to ask questions about the Farrakhan/Ellison meetings.

Question for Tom Perez and Democrat leadership: Are you still comfortable having Ellison in a leadership role at the DNC given the disclosure of his continued relationship with Farrakhan?

Farrahkan Claimed He Met With Ellison In 2015. “Farrakhan later claimed that Ellison and Carson had met with him in 2015.” (The Forward and Aiden Pink, “Keith Ellison Attended Private Dinner With Iran’s President and Louis Farrakhan,” Haaretz, 2/12/18)

Ellison And Farrahkan Dinner Together In 2013. “In September 2013, however, Messrs. Ellison and Farrakhan dined together.” (Jeryl Bier, “Keith Ellison, Louis Farrakhan And Iran,” The Wall Street Journal, 2/8/18)

It Appears That Ellison And Farrahkan Met In A Small Group Setting No Earlier Than 2010. “Johari Abdul-Malik, then director at Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center in Virginia, uploaded a YouTube video in 2013 that shows Ellison casually chatting among a crowd of men, including Farrakhan. The video is short — just 28 seconds —- but what it shows is indisputable: Ellison comfortably socializing in the same group as Farrakhan, decades after Ellison supposedly cut ties with him. The exact date of the video is unclear, but Abdul-Malik’s caption indicates it took place no earlier than 2010. In the video, Farrakhan is seen hugging Muslim American activist Mahdi Bray. ‘Min Farrakhan gives thanks for Mahdi Bray’s recovery from stroke,’ Abdul-Malik wrote. Bray suffered his stroke in 2010, according to PBS.” (Peter Hasson, “Keith Ellison Attended Multiple Meetings With Farrakhan While In Congress,” The Daily Caller, 2/13/18)
