These Are What Her Endorsers Say…

- May 18, 2016

Now One Year Into Her Candidacy, Clinton Has Racked Up Backhanded Newspaper Endorsements Across The Country But She Omits Their Tough Words About Her Character And Policies When Touting Their Support

TOP TAKEAWAYS

  • While Clinton touts the editorial boards across the country that have "endorsed" her in the Democrat primary, they have only done so reluctantly, feeling they have no strong alternative and must settle for a dishonest, ethically challenged candidate whose lapses in judgment have led to endless scandal.
  • One year after announcing, her endorsers have called her "polarizing," "fiercely disliked," "extreme flip-flopping," "a taste for expediency," "has a trust deficit," "way too secretive," "almost paranoid," "a tone-deaf approach," "hardly lovable and certainly flawed," "plays fast and loose with the truth," and "a politician with so much baggage that even Southwest Airlines would start charging fees," are just some of the attributes highlighted by Clinton's "endorsers."
  • The most persistent problem identified was Clinton's use of a secret server that has sparked an FBI investigation, with The Free Lance-Star editorial board declaring that "it's anyone's guess when the probe will end and whether there will be an indictment."
  • The Detroit News led the charge in questioning Clinton's trustworthiness saying that "even a disingenuous capitalist is preferable to a genuine socialist," as the Minneapolis Star Tribune cited a "disturbingly high level of mistrust" of Clinton.
  • The Des Moines Register highlighted her shifting positions noting that "her changing stance on gay marriage, immigration and other issues has invited accusations that she is guided less by personal conviction than by political calculations."
  • These half-hearted "endorsements" typify Clinton's problems with trust, ethics and character that have dogged her throughout this campaign, and led to legions' of Democrats grudging, unenthusiastic support.

NOW FACING A DRAWN OUT PRIMARY, CLINTON TOUTS RECEIVING "THE VAST MAJORITY" OF NEWSPAPER ENDORSEMENTS AS A DEFENSE OF HER RECORD

Clinton Stated That She Has "Received The Vast Majority Of Newspaper Endorsements" In The Democrat Primary. CLINTON: "And as you may know I've received the vast majority of newspaper endorsements. They all have the same information. They have all analyzed it. A lot of them have conducted interviews." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 4/3/16)

From Whitewater to Travelgate to, more recently, a botched Benghazi response, Clinton has been less than transparent and perhaps worse. Iowa City Press-Citizen

The Iowa City Press-Citizen Endorsed Hillary Clinton For The Democratic Nomination On January 29, 2016. "Though the pull of Sanders' rhetoric and candor is strong, and his willingness to stand on principle impressive, Hillary Clinton's overwhelming record of getting things done makes her the right choice for the nomination. She's been given a nearly 30-year trial by fire and come through with a laser focus on what matters to her and the American people. She's ready for this next, most challenging contest of her career, and we think this is her time to prove it." (Editorial, "Endorsement: Clinton Has Record Of Getting Things Done," Iowa City Press-Citizen , 1/29/16)

The Iowa City Press-Citizen Editorial Board Wrote, "Clinton Has Not Run The Perfect Campaign" And Has "Appeared Unwilling To Take On The Ambitious Policy Goals" That Bernie Sanders Has. "As evidenced by Sanders' surge in Iowa and New Hampshire, Clinton has not run the perfect campaign. Too often she has appeared unwilling to take on the ambitious policy goals Sanders has made centerpiece. The Vermont senator's presence in the race has helped to keep Clinton accountable, and to give her a real fight for the nomination." (Editorial, "Endorsement: Clinton Has Record Of Getting Things Done," Iowa City Press-Citizen , 1/29/16)

  • The Iowa City Press-Citizen Editorial Board Added That Clinton Has Been "Outfoxed" By Sanders In "Capturing A Disaffected, Frustrated Democratic Base That Has Felt Burned" By The Obama Presidency. "Programs like single-payer health care and free public education might seem like pie-in-the-sky fantasies, but Clinton - if elected - could take a page out of Sanders' book in coming to the table with an 'extreme' proposal to bargain for a better result. That's Negotiation 101, and Sanders has outfoxed Clinton in capturing a disaffected, frustrated Democratic base that has felt burned by the moderate presidency of Barack Obama." (Editorial, "Endorsement: Clinton Has Record Of Getting Things Done," Iowa City Press-Citizen , 1/29/16)

The Iowa City Press-Citizen Editorial Board Expressed "Caution At Aspects Of Clinton's Foreign Policy," Particularly Her Call For A No-Fly Zone Over Syria. "We must also express caution at aspects of Clinton's foreign policy. In her meeting with the board, she defended her call for a no-fly zone over Syria as a move in a game of diplomatic chess, something to get the Russians talking about the best course of action against the Islamic State. But enforcing a no-fly zone means a commitment to shooting down aircraft that violate that airspace. Russia will not look kindly on what is tantamount to a declaration of war, even if it is nothing more than a tactic to get them to back down." (Editorial, "Endorsement: Clinton Has Record Of Getting Things Done," Iowa City Press-Citizen , 1/29/16)

The Conway Daily Sun Editorial: Clinton Is "A Candidate Who May Not Excite You." "For Democrats, it's this simple. The Des Moines Register

The Des Moines Register Editorial: "[Clinton] Is Not A Perfect Candidate, As Evidenced [By] The Way She Has Handled The Furor Of Her Private Email Server." "She is not a perfect candidate, as evidenced the way she has handled the furor over her private email server. In our endorsement of her 2008 campaign for president, we wrote that 'when she makes a mistake, she should just say so.' That appears to be a lesson she has yet to fully embrace." She refutes that, and argues persuasively that a willingness to change one's thinking on specific issues, while remaining true to what she calls 'the same values and principles,' is a virtue, one lacking in most politicians."
