Tim Kaine Fails Campaign Finance 101

Mike Reed - October 10, 2017

More and more Democrats are urging every member of their party who received contributions from Harvey Weinstein, including Hillary Clinton and the DNC, to return or donate those funds.

But not Tim Kaine.

This morning, when Senator Kaine was pressed about whether the Clinton campaign should return donations from Harvey Weinsten he said, “Well, the campaign is over.”

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota even pressed Kaine on this, “You’re saying that money for your campaign has been spent, it can’t be given back?” Kaine reiterated, “Yeah, it’s over.”

The truth is the Clinton/Kaine campaign is sitting on nearly $1 million in cash on hand and could easily return or donate all of Weinstein’s money.

Why some Democrats, like Clinton/Kaine, the DNC, and others haven’t done so yet is only a question they can answer. But maybe someone should ask Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill, who, according to the most recent FEC reports, is still on payroll for the campaign Kaine called “over.”

SEN. KAINE: Well, the campaign is over. So here is what's happening. You have to call out bad behavior…

CAMEROTA: But you're saying that money for your campaign has been spent? It can’t be given back?

SEN. KAINE: It's over. Yeah, it's over.  …
