Two Joe's Don't Make A Right for Middle Class Hoosiers

Michael Joyce - February 9, 2018

Joe Biden held a fundraiser for Joe Donnelly in Indianapolis today just days after touting his progressive credentials and calling President Trump a joke. Here’s what Biden had to say earlier this week about being a hardcore progressive:

“I will challenge any of you to put my progressive credentials of 36 years in the Senate up against any of you,” Biden said. “Any of you. I’ll also suggest that my commitment to growth of the middle class is as strong as any of you.”

With Biden in town, here’s the statement Donnelly’s campaign manager Peter Hanscom issued:

“Throughout both of their careers, Joe Donnelly and Vice President Biden have been champions for middle-class Americans: folks who want to work hard for a decent wage, provide for their families, and make sure their kids have a fair shot at the American dream. Joe’s excited to welcome Vice President Biden back to Indiana to help spread Joe’s message of hard work and common sense that resonates so strongly with Hoosier voters.”

Considering Biden and Donnelly fervently opposed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, it’s a little bizarre to hear them boast their commitment to the middle class. Tax reform continues to deliver higher wages, bonuses, and larger paychecks to Hoosiers, and Joe Donnelly voted against it.

“Joe Biden and Joe Donnelly have a lot in common; these two unapologetically progressive Democrats vehemently opposed President Trump’s tax cuts for the middle class. As middle class Hoosiers continue to see the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act through more money in their pockets, does Senator Donnelly really still believe voting against it was the right thing to do?” –RNC Spokesperson Michael Joyce
