Why Bernie Sanders Won Last Night's Democrat Debate

Michael Short - October 14, 2015

Lots of analysis has come out of the Democrat debate, but consider these takeaways:

Bernie Sanders won the focus group conducted by Frank Luntz.

Bernie Sanders won the focus group conducted by Fusion.

Bernie Sanders won the focus group conducted by CNN.

Bernie Sanders was the most searched candidate following the debate according to Google Trends.

Former Obama communications director Dan Pfeiffer noted this dynamic on Twitter, drawing comparisons to Barack Obama’s first presidential run where he lost the pundits but won the focus groups and online polls. Hillary Clinton may be the strongest debater on the stage – she was in 2008 too – but like Barack Obama in 2007 and 2008 it was Bernie Sanders that won the hearts and interest of Democrat voters.
